There are tens of thousands of applications in the Google Play Store, and unfortunately, there are unsafe ones among these applications. While the technology giant continues to work on this, another step has come. Accordingly, some applications will be given an approved badge in the Play Store.
Adding approved badge to VPN applications on Google Play Store
Google announced the launch of verified badges for VPN apps in the Play Store. This innovation aims to highlight VPN apps that prioritise user privacy and security.
This badge, which carries a checkmark icon in a shield, is located on the app page just above the rating score, above the ‘Install’ button. In addition, applications that earn this badge are also listed under a special heading in search results.

NordVPN, hide.me and Aloha Browser were among the first applications to receive the secure VPN application badge. So what does Google require from Play Store developers to earn this badge? Here are the conditions announced:
- To complete Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2 verification.
- Having an organisation developer account type.
- Meet Google Play’s target API level requirements.
- Getting at least 10 thousand downloads and 250 reviews.
- Be live on Google Play for at least 90 days.
- Provide a Data Security Department declaration and comply with the following clauses:
- Independent security review (under Additional badges).
- Encryption in transit.
